Revolutionizing Electrical Installations: How Hubbell Wiring Devices Screwless Terminating Design for Twist-Lock Devices Improves Installation Time by 80%

One notable advancement that is making waves in the industry is the screwless terminating design for Twist-Lock devices. This revolutionary approach not only enhances
installation speed but also improves security and reliability. In this blog post, we'll delve into how this technology is transforming electrical installations and saving valuable time for installers.

The Evolution of Hubbell Wiring Devices Twist-Lock Devices: Traditionally, Hubbell Twist-Lock devices have been relied upon for their secure connections and robust design. However, the installation process often involved tedious screw terminals, which required precise tightening and were time-consuming. Recognizing the need for a faster and more efficient solution, Hubbell Wiring Devices introduced the screwless terminating design, ushering in a new era of convenience and productivity.

Technicians simply insert the wire and press the plunger to secure, done!

The unique, patented design even increases performance over time. The advantage comes from heavy-duty internal levered springs that continue to apply pressure as wire strands relax. The device grabs wires tight and holds them tight for the long term, regardless of external factors. Vibration and thermal cycling present in harsh industrial applications actually help Hubbell Wiring Twist-Lock devices deliver a consistent, reliable connection.

As demand for faster, safer, and more efficient solutions continues to grow, screwless termination stands out as a game-changer in the industry. With its myriad benefits, it's no wonder that electricians are embracing Hubbell Wiring Devices new innovation with open arms, paving the way for a more efficient and productive future in electrical engineering.

Wiring Device-Kellems Ensure Critical Power Delivery in Harsh Environments.

Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems announces a new line of Watertight Wiring Condition Plugs and Connectors, with high-performance features that improve safety and productivity during the power-delivery process.

The new Watertight Wiring Condition Plugs and Connectors incorporate the best features from Hubbell’s existing watertight plugs and connectors and combine them with impressive new characteristics to boost performance and increase user safety.

To help installers easily see the LED indicators embedded inside the devices – which indicate power and wiring conditions – a translucent, over-mold elastomer provides a visual indication of miswiring:

  • Green = correct power and wiring (okay)
  • Red = incorrect power and wiring (check)
  • Off – no power

To make washdown easier, this enhanced line of Watertight Wiring Condition Plugs and Connectors features a smoother body that reduces the opportunity for debris buildup. In addition, elastomer cone seals can be adjusted to fit a variety of cord sizes to prevent dirt, debris, mold, and water from collecting at cable entrances. This cone seal also provides additional strain relief.

“With these enhancements, Hubbell can offer a high-performance solution for any watertight application,” says Mike Williams, product manager at Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems. “Our new watertight plugs and connectors truly make a difference in unforgiving conditions where power is critical to maintaining uptime.”

Watertight Wiring Condition Plugs and Connectors can deliver power in the harshest of environments, including factories and food and beverage, agriculture, construction, and outdoor environments. They are UL 498 Listed, NSF and CSA C22.2 No. 42 certified, and IP69K rated to perform despite mud, standing water, frequent use, and temperature fluctuations. Built with impact-resistant TPE housing and PBT nuts, the plugs and connectors aren’t impacted by chemicals or abuse.

Hubbell Circuit-Lock® Disconnects with LED Indicators
Redefine Safety Benchmarks

Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems redefined the benchmark for motor disconnect safety with its inSIGHT™ phase-indicating technology.  Six LEDs (3 line side/3 load side) incorporated into the cover provide users critical information. This inSIGHT™ phase-indicating technology is now available in 30A, 60A and 100A.

The integral LEDs provide both safety and convenience benefits. Electrical status of each phase is now within sight and clearly displayed on the cover. Users are provided a secondary way to visually confirm make/break on all phases. Furthermore, the LEDs provide insight about the electrical status of the switch within the enclosure prior to removing the cover. Personnel can quickly and safely identify abnormal conditions such as a welded contact or dropped phase. The inSIGHT™ clearly differentiates itself with features you can literally see.

inSIGHT™ disconnect switches are available in non-metallic and stainless-steel versions, with or without a jog switch. For retrofit applications, replacement covers are available to use in existing installations.

When locked in the “off” position, the high-visibility red rotary handle complies with OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. When in the “on” position, the cover cannot be opened.

The disconnect switch’s IP69k rating means that it can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns. It is also certified for use in food processing applications by NSF, and is UL Listed for Type 4X and 12 enclosures.

“Safety personnel have been thrilled with the 30A inSIGHT™.” says Greg McAleer, senior product manager for Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems. “The biggest question has been is it available in 60A and 100A?  I’m happy to now be able to say yes!”
